More than 14 days before the test:

  • You can only transfer the same booking once.

  • The administrative fee for transfers is CAD 76.

On rare occasions, there may be instances where you are unable to attend your test or are disadvantaged on the test day owing to illness, injury, or another exceptional event outside your control. In these cases, you may make an application to your test centre for special consideration due to exceptional circumstances. This will allow you to carry over your test fee to a later assessment opportunity or, in some cases, apply for a refund.

Special Consideration includes instances such as:

  • A traumatic experience
  • Domestic crisis
  • Unavoidable legal or military obligation

  • Serious medical conditions which prevent you from attending or performing normally on test day.

  • Bereavement, or other forms of significant hardship
  • Civil unrest, extreme weather.

You can apply for special consideration before the test, and up to two calendar days after the test date. However, applications for special consideration will not be accepted after your results have been released.

You need to contact us directly and provide full information as to why you qualify for special consideration with supporting evidence. We will assess your application and will respond to you within seven working days of receiving your full application in writing, during which time your results will be put on hold until a decision is finalized.

If ELC College approves your application, you will receive a refund or transfer. In some cases, this will be subject to an administrative fee (CAD 76). Please be aware that refunds can take 4–6 weeks (about 1 and a half months) to process. Note that there will be no adjustment to band scores.

Under certain circumstances outside test centre control, we may have to cancel your test. These circumstances include, and are not limited to, extreme weather conditions, natural disaster, civil unrest and industrial action.

In these circumstances, ELC College will provide you with as much notice as possible and give you the choice of either:

  • A full refund, or

  • A transfer to a future test date convenient to you.

In cases where ELC College cancels a test under circumstances within its control then in addition to a full refund or transfer to another test date, you may be eligible to apply for compensation for expenses incurred. Your eligibility will be assessed as a reasonable claim or not by ELC College and any compensation will be awarded depending on the following conditions:

  • ELC College will assess whether the decision to cancel is within or outside its control.
  • Any compensation awarded will be limited to travel and accommodation expenses only and which are:

  • If you travel further than the closest test venue to your normal place of residence then the test center will not find your claim reasonable.
  • in the circumstances, when ELC College has to cancel or reschedule a computer delivered IELTS test due to lack of minimum number of test takers required to run the session or for any technical errors which are beyond its control the above rule (compensation) won’t be applicable

You will receive a refund if your result is changed to a higher band score. An administrative fee of CAD 25 will be deducted.
